When Should Your Forklift be Serviced?

When should your forklift be serviced?

Forklifts need regular inspections and service to keep them in the best condition to ensure worker safety, equipment efficiency, and longevity. Keep your operation running smoothly and prevent any downtime by following the routine checks. It is recommended that forklifts should be serviced every 3-6 months depending on the usage, type of forklift and environment the forklift operates. Then a standard yearly maintenance service to ensure the forklift stays in proper working order.

Daily Inspections: Operators should conduct a daily inspection for any issues like leaks, tire damage, or any unusual noises. They should also check all lights, brakes, and the horn to ensure the safety features are all working.

Every 250-500 Hours (3-6 Months): The items that need to be serviced at this point is:

  • Grease Parts
  • Inspecting/Changing filters
  • Replace Engine Oil
  • Inspect Mast & Chains
  • Check Drive System
  • Look for potential problems to prevent major breakdown
  • Conduct a safety inspection

Every 1,000-2,000 Hours (6months – 1 Year): During this major service check these items will be evaluated:

  • Engine (if applicable)
  • Transmission (if applicable)
  • Electrical Systems
  • Battery (if applicable)
  • Load testing
  • Calibration of all features
  • Any other problems that have seemed to arise since last maintenance
